Frequently Asked Questions
We welcome any questions you, the public, might have about the Navarre Beach Fire Department and FIrefighting in general. Here is a sample of what we have been asked:
Do you have a firedog? No, unfortunately that tradition seems to be one that is dying out.
Do you have a fire pole? That is another tradition that is fading away, but for reasons of safety and liability. Too many firefighters were injuring themselves on the "landing" after sliding down the pole.
I keep seeing the firetruck at the grocery store and about town. Wouldn't it save gas to take something smaller? In this economy, savign gas is a very real issue. However, saving lives is our number one priority as firefighters. We need to be ready to answer a call at a moments notice and therefore whenever we leave the station we are in the engine.
How is being a beach fire department differ from being an "inland" one? We do many rescues in the water as well as on land. We treat jellyfish stings, sunstroke, rescue swimmers caught in riptides, all the things that can happen at a beach. The only lifeguards on the island are down at the east end public beach and so we are called in often from private beaches and public beach access to the west. Now that the road is open to Pensacola Beach we will serve as back-up to them also.
